There are really two kinds of metal garden furniture on the market today and both

are available either from online retailers or from your local garden centre, DIY superstore or supermarket. The type you choose depends largely on your personal tastes and preferences rather than your budget because it's mostly a matter of style. Cast garden furniture is generally for the traditionalist who wants a particular look to suit older houses and gardens where something too modern would be out of place. Aluminium garden furniture on the other hand is generally regarded as being more minimalist and modernistic to suit modern living in houses with urban styling and architecturally landscaped gardens and patios.

The traditional style and appearance of cast garden furniture is based upon the cast iron Victorian originals which you often see serving as pub tables and the pierced designs, usually featuring floral motifs are ideal for many older style gardens although it is a style of metal garden furniture that does not really look out of place in more modern settings depending upon your taste. Originals can be expensive but there are many retailers offering budget metal garden furniture as replicas.

The modern look and minimalist styling of aluminium garden furniture will find favour with many people and although there are some expensive leading-edge products out there, you will also find cheap metal garden furniture which reflects the style at a wide range of online and retail dealers. The modern style makes use of both aluminium and a wide variety of plastics, fabrics and timbers and these are generally in colour co-ordinated or complementary shades. This kind of metal garden furniture works particularly well with the modern architectural styles of planting and hard landscaping to striking effect.

Metal garden furniture usually requires very little maintenance in order to keep it in tip top condition but some manufacturers recommend either covered or indoor storage during inclement weather. Depending upon your budget you may be well advised to seek out superior metal garden furniture that has been discounted in a sale because it will almost certainly offer far better value for money than cheap metal garden furniture. However remember that in sales older styles of aluminium garden furniture may be offered in a sale because it has become slightly out of fashion. Obviously this is less of a problem with traditional cast garden furniture which of course does not date. In the end, it's best to look for better quality rather than the lowest price, even when considering budget metal garden furniture.
