The answer may be surprising.

Chlorine

Everyone knows that chlorine is added to help kill bacteria. It helps to keep your water safe. However, chlorine has been linked to diseases like cancer. There is no actual proof. If given the choice, many people would rather not ingest it. This is where a good filtration system can help.

Fluoride

Fluoride has received mixed reviews for many years. It is an important part of dental health. However, most modern toothpastes contain enough. Not long ago, it is used as a treatment for overactive thyroid. If you ingest too much, your thyroid function may be slowed. It is not believed to be in high enough concentrations to affect you. However, everyone has different tolerances to drugs. Perhaps it is better to brush your teeth twice a day, with good fluoride toothpaste.

Other ingredients

In some public systems, many type of toxic ingredients have been found. They may appear in very low concentrations. However, tolerances can vary among people. Would you rather have a tiny amount of pesticides in you, or none? How about any type of bacteria? The same goes for any other type of contaminants like paint thinners and arsenic.

Lead has been occasionally found in some systems. It does not take a high concentration to cause problems. Of course, your water may not contain lead. However, it may have small amounts of toxic materials within.

If something tastes funny or smells bad, it may be a good idea, not to drink it. Bottled water can be very expensive over time. A filtration system may be a good idea. Maybe there are bad things in your drinking glass. You cannot be sure. However, you can be sure that there is not, with a good water filter.

What does tap water contain? It may have chlorine and fluoride. These have benefits. However, they may also have side effects. There may be many other toxic materials in tiny amounts. To be safe, it may be good to invest in a filtration system. It will protect you and your family.
