Repeat the Mantra So, the first step in lowering your blood sugar is to change your mind. You do that by telling yourself, by training yourself: 'I will eat foods that lower blood sugar. Natural Remedies for High Blood Sugar Natural Remedies for High Blood Sugar Include Avoiding Foods that Raise Blood Sugar There's nothing more natural than choosing not to eat poison. Self-discipline is an important skill in the fight against high blood sugar, and you must resolve to do this. And it's not that hard, as I'll only put two things on this list:

1. If it's white, it ain't right!, and 2. High fructose corn syrup

There are foods that lower blood sugar, and foods that raise it. White sugar, white bread, white rice and even white salt are NOT foods that lower blood sugar! They raise it! Cut them out of your diet IMMEDIATELY! Please! If you must have sugar, buy raw sugar, and of course try and cut down on it. Brown rice, although it takes a little longer, tastes just as good as white rice (put in extra water to soften it up). And there are so many tasty whole wheat breads, there's no reason not to switch. (I know, this is a lot more than 2 things, but I want to make it simple for you.)

I won't rest until high fructose corn syrup is banned, and neither should you-don't eat it! This is also NOT a food that lowers blood sugar. In fact, it is the biggest pestilence, a scourge, to all diabetics and you should treat it that way. Read your labels! It's in almost EVERYTHING, so this might take some getting used to, but it will make you feel much better. Regular soda and many, many 'fruit juices' must be eliminated, as they're filled with this poison.

Table salt raises your blood pressure-very bad for diabetics. Use sea salt, celtic sea salt or kosher salt, which aren't processed and not nearly as bad. It's preferable to quite added salt entirely; we get enough in the foods we already eat.

Foods that Lower Blood Sugar

1. Bitter gourd aka bitter melon aka balsam pear; 2. Prickly pear; 3. Cinnamon; 4. Fruits for Diabetic Patients; 5. Lemon; 6. Flax seed; 7. Garlic/Onions; 8. Nuts; 9. Okra; 10. Vinegar.

Bitter Melon

Number one of the list of Foods that Lower Blood Sugar is the Bitter Gourd/Bitter Melon. There are a myriad of phytochemicals present in bitter melon and at least three different groups of extracted components have been reported to regulate and lower blood glucose levels. These involve glucoside, a steroidal saponin-like substance called charantin; alkaloids called momordicine that supress neural response to sweet taste stimuli; and peptides mimicking the action of animal insulin. As of July 2006, Liva Harinantenaina and a group of Japanese researchers confirmed that the major pure cucurbutanoid compounds of bitter melon possess hypoglycemic effects on blood glucose levels.

My mother-in-law makes bitter melon juice extract to control her diabetes. She is 83 and she does NOT take insulin shots. (She probably isn't even 'diabetic' anymore.) She boils the melon, but not too much, then strains the juice through a cheese cloth. Old school style. You can use the blender. I cannot rave enough about this melon-it's by far one of the top natural remedies for high blood sugar.

Prickly Pear Cactus

The prickly pear cactus is a close number two on our list of Foods that Lower Blood Sugar, and with good reason. Studies have shown profound effects on blood sugar levels and latin americans have raved about its potency for generations.

What's interesting about the bitter melon and prickly pear is the fact that they are both bitter foods. I wonder about the potential for other bitter foods, like watercress, in fighting diabetes.

As for the other foods that lower blood sugar, much has already been written about them. See good fruits for diabetic patients, for example. I urge you to cut out the white foods and high fructose corn poison, and to try the bitter gourd and prickly pears. I am convinced that these natural remedies for high blood sugar can cure you of your diabetes, or at least reduce your dependence on shots-and save you money and anxiety.

Be well!
