What Happened To Dinosaur Stuffed Animals?

When it comes to plush toys, dinosaur stuffed animals are probably not the first

kind that come to mind when shopping for the next one to add to your child's collection. Your child, however, will likely beg and plead if it means changing your mind about these incredible creatures.

Even today, no one knows for certain why dinosaurs disappeared from the world. But despite that, it doesn't keep us from imagining every possible reason as to why it happened. There are two schools of thought on the subject: the gradualists and the catastrophists. The gradualists believe a number of things took place; over population, biological changes, mammals ate too many dinosaur eggs that would have ensured continuation of the species, disease, and even climate. The catastrophists on the other hand, believe something entirely different. They think that a single cataclysmic event wiped out not only the dinosaurs, but all other animals that were living at the same time. The theory is that a meteoroid or comet struck the earth 65 million years ago, thus doing away with what we now know are the largest animals to ever have lived on the planet. Regardless of all the theories, children often forego standard plush toys like teddy bears and request dinosaur stuffed animals instead as they continue to fascinate not just them, but adults as well.

If it's not tough enough to resist your child's plea for dinosaur stuffed animals, what do you do about every other dinosaur themed product on the market? From books, to toys, to action figures, to television shows, to movies, you can't get away from them. According to the world wide box office, the 1993 film Jurassic Park, just missed making the top ten grossing movies of all time by a mere one million, nine hundred thousand dollars, coming in at number eleven. Given all the movies made since the early 1900's, number eleven dollar grossing of all time is quite impressive. This just continues to speak to the popularity and sometime obsession when it comes all things dinosaur. It should be no surprise then, when your child keeps asking for dinosaur stuffed animals.

As recently as November 2009, scientists announced to a very enthusiastic dinosaur audience, that a new discovery had been made in South Africa; a new species of dinosaur had been found that walked the earth 195 million years ago. If you thought your child clamoured for dinosaur stuffed animals before this significant announcement, you can only imagine what you will be in for after they hear of this event.

There is really no getting away from dinosaur stuffed animals they are here to stay as long as a child will have them.
