What Happens If My Delivery Driver Is In A Collision?
The best delivery drivers are on the road for 8-10 hours every single day
, and yet even all their driving experience can't always keep them out of an accident. The weather, other vehicles, and other objects all around them on the road are totally beyond their control, and while they can do their best to drive defensively and avoid accidents, the truth is that they still happen to even the best drivers. If you're shipping with a Milwaukee courier and you suddenly get a call that your courier driver has been in an accident, it's likely that you're going to have a lot of questions about just what happens next.
The immediate concern is of course the safety of the driver, but the courier likely won't contact you until that issue has been addressed, making the next concern your cargo that you are shipping with the company. The next action depends largely on the severity of the collision. There have been many courier collisions in the past that were totally minor, resulting in something however that prevented the vehicle from continuing its delivery, such as flat tires. In these cases, the courier company will have one of their on-call drivers go out to the scene and transfer the packages into their vehicle so that the deliveries can all be completed as close to the original schedule as possible.
If the accident was more severe, there is a good chance that some damage was sustained by your package in the vehicle. This is when insurance starts becoming a factor. Usually, the courier will return the package to you if it was damaged on route, because you are going to need to have the package for your insurance claim. You will have to get in touch with the proper insurance carrier, either the one retained by the courier, or your own if you opted to put your own insurance on the shipment, and begin a claim as soon as you possibly can after the accident. Most insurance claims have time limits on them so it is important to not delay this action in any way.
From there it is simply a matter of finishing the insurance claim. Of course if you have a replacement product that you can ship to your customer, after explaining what happened, it is worth asking the courier if they can provide a complimentary shipment of the replacement product.
