What Improvements Have We Seen And Can We Expect In Golf Drivers In 2013

Over the years the technological development of in general has been rapid and extensive

. Drivers in particular have come on leaps and bounds in the last decade. Most premium drivers are heavily engineered and are great at helping you to get great flight of the T.

A lot of this engineering has come from the design of the head. Tiger Woods was quoted in 2011 saying he looked for a driver that could help him hit further and straighter and that he felt had really achieved this in their 2011 and 2012 range by reducing unwanted spin off the club face. If technology has helped Tiger I am sure the rest of us will have seen massive improvements.

So what has and what will 2013 bring in terms of new drivers?

In an interesting review I watched recently with Gary Seal, a scratch golfer, I noticed he commented on how much improvement he had observed in the shafts of clubs. Like me he feels that a lot of the major advances in club heads had been found and implemented and that significant advances in this area were unlikely, Gary feels like the real improvements made in 2012 have come by introducing premium shafts.

Some of this change has been in the appearance of the shaft and handles but this is mainly aesthetic, I would like to know what improvements have been made that will help my game. I am sure golfers like Ian Poulter have had great fun with a variety of coloured shafts but this wont help me on cold Tuesday morning at my local club.

The reduction in the weight of the shafts is definitely a big improvement. Light weight shafts on golf clubs is an advantage to all golfers but does offers us older golfers an added advantage because although over the years I have improved my game dramatically in lots of areas I can feel that the speed of my swing has slowed down and although I spend less time in the rough than in my younger days I would like to combine this control with more pace and distance. I have noticed that the great new clubs of 2013 have seen dramatic improvement in this area.

There also seems to be more drivers with longer shaft lengths being promoted and sold. Having tried some longer shafts I have noticed that personally this does have a dramatic improvement on the speed of my swing but I do seem to be losing some of the control, so I wont be rushing out to get a 46 length. This is however all down to the individual golfer and I am confident that serious golfers will be getting custom fit for their clubs and in particular drivers more often. This is a way that would help most golfers of all standards to see a measurable improvement in their game and with the invention of applications such as this is going to be more and more common place.

In summary I think that one of the biggest changes we will see in golf equipment in 2013 is going to come as a result of custom fitting becoming a cheaper and more readily available, this will help people to find clubs that suit them and in turn improve their game.
