What Is A Bol?

The BOL is one of the important documents that are going to be shipped out with any package you send with your courier

. It's key that you understand what documents need to accompany a shipment, and why, in order for you to be able to best manage your shipping operation. That way, if there is ever any problem with any of the documentation that was supposed to be accompanying your order when you ship it out, you will know what action you have to take to correct the problem, or what information you're going to need to obtain. BOL stands for bill of lading. It contains what amounts to all of the information regarding the shipment that you have arranged with the courier company. It is always a good idea to have the information that is contained within the BOL documented somewhere else as well. That way, you are prepared to provide any of that information should the document for some reason become lost. Also, always keep a copy of the reference number of your shipment, that way, the courier company should be able to quickly and easily print you another copy of the BOL should the need arise.

The BOL is going to state both where your goods are being picked up from, and where they are being delivered to. Similarly, they will include all the information regarding both the pickup and the delivery. This includes the time that the original pickup is scheduled for, and when the delivery is expected to be completed. That way, if anyone needs to know anything about the delivery itself, all they should have to do is look quickly at the BOL.

One time that the BOL becomes even more important than normal is when you're shipping something internationally. On any international shipment, the BOL must absolutely be included every time. The reason for this is that deliveries cannot get into a foreign country unless all the required documentation is presented. One of the pieces of paperwork which is always going to be required is the bill of lading. Failing to have it included could result in a shipment being turned back or in being held at the border. In that situation, it is important that you get your courier to send out a copy of the BOL ASAP so that the delivery can be completed.
