What Is A Squeeze Page? A Guide

If you've been around the internet marketing world a little bit, then you will have probably heard of something called a 'squeeze page'. Just what is a squeeze page? It's something that internet marketers use for a very specific purpose.

That specific purpose is that of gathering email address for a 'list'. I'm sure you've done it before - enter your name and email address to get a specific piece of information, perhaps join a newsletter or something that you find informative. Well, a squeeze page is an extreme example of one of these 'join my list' sorts of website. It's not a website - it's just ONE page that contains a catchy headline in big bold writing and perhaps a little information to keep the interest going.

But you see, the only purpose is to get you on the email list. They'll make some big bold claim about how to how to fix a relationship or something like that, usually with some red writing and something very emotive. Then the ONLY way of getting that information is to sign up to the email list you see where this is going? What is a squeeze page? A very simple way of doing something called 'email marketing'.

You've been on a list before, I'm sure. They send you emails that are nicely crafted and come every few days for at least the first month of you being on that list. Maybe they do what's called a 'broadcast' every now and again to everyone on that list. The web service that provides this type of email sequencing is called an autoresponder. Email marketing is a very effective way of selling products. If you have an active list of many people (sometimes 10,000+) then a sales pitch direct to their inboxes usually works a treat. You can promote to these people time and time again. I'm not going to go into the specifics of email marketing here, as if you want to become successful at it you'll probably find it requires a bit more information!

So then, squeeze pages offer a very easy way of getting people onto a list but are they recommended in this day and age? No. They aren't. In fact (and thankfully!) these sorts of pages are on the way out. They are effective yes, in one way. But the people on that list aren't likely to be that loyal to the marketer. After all, the website simply dazzled you with pretty lights and a big claim once you've 'woken up' as it were, you might be more able to see through the smoke.

Also, Google punishes them. This is because they have almost no quality content on them, and often it is static (not changing). Therefore it's difficult to get a nice ranking in the search engines and that can be problematic.

What is a squeeze page? In my opinion, it's an outdated way of getting people onto an email list. What is a squeeze page? An effective way of getting people onto an email list, but runs the risk of people leaving. It's your choice.
