What Is An Electronic Cigarette?

An electronic cigarette is a device run by battery and produces nicotine or non-nicotine vapors

. The cigarette is used as a replacement for products like pipes, cigars and cigarettes. In addition to nicotine, the vapor produced includes a flavor which simulates the feeling that occurs when tobacco smoke is inhaled, although there is no actual smoke present.

The electronic cigarette is generally constructed to mimic the look of an actual cigarette, although they are also made in the shape of pipes and cigars. The tube is also sometimes designed in the shape of a ballpoint pen and is typically reusable and can be refilled. There are also a number of brands which have developed disposable electronic cigarettes as well.

In automatic electronic cigarettes, the smoker inhales air through the device with the flow of air being noted by the sensor. The sensor, in turn, activates the heater, which vaporizes the solution of flavored fluid which is present in the mouthpiece of the cigarette. This liquid may or may not have nicotine. In cigarettes which operated are manually, the smoker is required to press a button which, in turn, activates the heater to produce the vapor which can then be breathed in by the smoker. The majority of models also have an LED light present on the opposite side of the mouthpiece which also activates when the smoker inhales. This LED acts as a usage indicator with the colors varying depending upon the manufacturing company.

There are several components to an electronic cigarette. This includes the LED light; the battery, which is used to operate the cigarette; the atomizer or heater; and, the cartridge or mouthpiece. Although there are many different types of cigarette, these basic components are universal. The mouthpiece is a plastic piece which attaches to the tube and contains the flavored liquid that may contain nicotine. When the solution is used up, the majority of cigarettes can be refilled if they are labeled as reusable. The atomizer or heater acts by vaporizing the fluid stored in the mouthpiece producing a flavored vapor which may contain nicotine. They typically need to be replaced approximately every month and are the piece of electronic cigarettes which costs the most to maintain. The battery used in electronic cigarettes is typically a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It is used in the activation of the heater with the battery lasting for a variable amount of time, depending on the extent of use as well as the type and size of the battery in question. Chargers can be purchased to charge the batteries in the car, a wall outlet, or a USB port in the computer.
