What Is Infertility
A woman is normally diagnosed as infertile if she is unable to become pregnant after at least 12 months of trying.
If she never had any previous pregnancies before then it is called primary infertility. Where as a woman who was pregnant in the past, but are unable to become pregnant now, then it is called secondary infertility.
Most woman have periods of infertile over the years. They are mostly unaware of these times because they are not trying to conceive during those times. Statistics indicate that a womans chances of falling pregnant are only one in one hundred. With every one out of every seven woman being infertile.
Contributing factors to infertility is normally related to things such as unhealthy lifestyles - Smoking, Alcohol, unfit, over-weight, under-weight or age, normally past her fertile age or advanced biological age and then there is physical medical conditions for example - PCOS, endometriosis, STD's etc.
So what is infertility and how is a womans reproduction affected?
The Reproduction Process Of A Woman:
The hormone progesterone helps prepare the uterus for pregnancy by changing the utering lining by making it thicker and a lot more blood rich and assist in maintaining a viable pregnancy and start to prepare the mammary (milk) glands in the breasts.
The LH hormones activates the ovarian follicles production of the yellow matter called the corpus luteum that is responsible for the progesterone production.
The hormone progesterone is assisted by the hormone estrogen to create a optimum environment in the uterus for the fertilized egg to be implanted into and to be nourished.
Another hormone FSH are responsible for the signal to the ovarian follicles to start the ripening and maturation process of the eggs.
But FSH also play a role in the estrogen production and then the release of the LH.
So how did the egg become fertilized?
If sperm are present in the fallopian tubes when the egg are release after ovulation then, if all things work out, the egg will become fertilized.
The best time for fertilization is normally the two days after ovulation but the sperm can stay viable for up to 6 days.
The fertilized egg then journey to the uterus where it needs to be implanted into the uterine lining and the embryo start the cell division and growth.
If their is a disruption to this process at any stage then instead of a viable pregnancy, infertility or miscarriage is the unfortunate end result.
