What is the difference between panic and anxiety attacks? Actually, these two conditions only have very thin line in between. Even experts use these terms interchangeably. Even in the medical world, the two has small variations as well. I would willingly prefer
anxiety attack versus panic attack even though the difference is only narrow.
You might be questioning why anxiety attacks are far better than panic episodes. That is for the mere reason that the former is most definitely milder than the latter. Manifestations are not very disturbing and can be bearable in some instances that is why it is milder. Studies have even shown and proven that mild anxiety can diversify your view and make you think sharper.
Medical explanations are available on how mild anxiety can do good to a person. Let me begin by saying that whenever you feel nervous or threatened, your brain will trigger your sympathetic nervous response in order for you to be prepared to either fight or flight. The moment this response is activated, the heart starts to pump faster, the pupils becomes larger in size and the blood supply in the organs are increased.
When all of those reactions or changes happen in your body, you become more mindful. Such kind of alertness helps you respond to any situation faster as well as helps you think fast. Yet, the moment your anxiety continues to rise up, then it would become more difficult for you to deal things going around you. You will have an upset stomach, trouble in sleeping and lack of appetite. All of those things will definitely slow you down.
Although those symptoms seem to be extreme, they are nothing compared to what you will feel during a panic attack. The most common symptoms of this disorder are hyperventilation, tachycardia, excessive sweating and even loss of consciousness. During an attack you will feel as if your chest has tightened up and you cannot catch your breath. In some extreme, yet rare, cases you may also have a cardiac arrest. However, this only applies to patients who already have an underlying cardiac condition.
Heredity, personality, drugs and environmental condition are among the common triggers of panic attacks. Sadly, they are already studies made that had proven that such condition can be passed on from one generation to another. Furthermore, if you are the kind of person who does not know how to give away his or her negative thoughts - or maybe you are in an environment that will not allow you to do that - you are at risk for developing this disorder.
Accordingly, there are also numerous treatment regimens for this disorder. The most common yet very efficient is the cognitive behavioral therapy. This therapy will help you determine the past issues and problems you have in your life that might somewhat affect your living today and you will be assisted by a therapist. This is very efficient since this will kill the roots of your disorder.
Anxiety attack versus panic attack? There are not too many variations between the two. However, it is important that you will learn how to handle the disorder as soon as you can to avoid further aggravation.
