What Is The Guam Base Buildup?
Guam is a small island in the Western Pacific Ocean that is on the brink of the biggest
military facility expansion in the history of the United States. This will make over 30,000 jobs in Guam, Marianas and the Marshall Islands while the Guam Base Buildup gets underway.
Taking the next five years into account, there will be harbor improvements, industrial, commercial, infrastructure, and major military construction as well, costing in the billions.
Each of the infrastructure and military base projects will be open to be bid on by construction companies that have been approved, GSA suppliers, and vendors that are from the United States and other countries. The US and its citizens will be the only one to work on sensitive areas and developments, but everything else is up for grabs.
This huge construction is being realized in cooperation with American, Guam, and Japanese governments. Some of the infrastructure work will be:
1. Expanding wastewater treatment plants
2. Construction of new bridges and roadways
3. Extensive amounts of utility construction
4. Improvements to the harbor
5. New school and education construction
6. More living quarters
7. Barracks for workers
8. Hospitals
While the infrastructure is being rebuilt, expansions, improvements, and construction will start on new and existing Naval and Air Force Bases, as well as Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard facilities. There will be long and short-term jobs available to both foreign and U.S. workers. You can work just handling the Guam's infrastructure or supplying goods and services to the community there.
The real estate market in Guam is on the rise, and a bigger increase is expected soon. In the next few years, Guam's population will increase by 50%. This means that new schools, hospitals, shopping centers, and apartment buildings will need to be constructed to serve the influx of people.
Since the locals know all about the island, Guam Base Buildup is working with them to make the most of the opportunity. In addition, working those that know the place well can make the process of securing permits easier as well.
Not only the Marines are scheduled to grow, but also, the Navy plans to enhance its waterfront facilities and logistic capabilities to be able to support attack submarines, high speed transport ships, and soon to be stealth battleships.
The Anderson Air force base is also looking to expand to hold F-2's, F-22's, unmanned Global hawks, and B-2 Spirit bombers, making the Guam base a global surveillance, intelligence, and recon strike hub. In addition, the Army wants to put a ballistic missile defense task force on the island of Guam, adding 630 soldiers and 960 dependants.
The Guam Base Buildup is a major undertaking that will provide jobs and other opportunities to many.
