What Is The Right Lightbox For You

When choosing a Lightbox it is necessary to determine what it is to be used for

. Is it to be used by Doctors or lab Technicians for analysing products, or X-ray slides? Will it be used by Designers etc who would generally need it flat on a table able and firm enough to support the pressure of a person drawing on the surface, or is it to be used for displaying advertising literature or artwork and would therefore have to be able to be hung on a wall or advertising board?

When using a Lightbox for analysing products or X-rays then it must have a light that is evenly spread over the complete lighted surface. If the light source is only positioned on one side, then the light intensity will slightly diminish as it travels across the surface. This could therefore result in inaccurate readings. The ideal Lightbox for this type of use must have light source on at least two opposite sides giving a much more even spread of light. When using a Lightbox for the purpose of viewing X-ray slides it must have the facility of having a clip arrangement which will hold the slide when viewing.

Designers and architects also require a Lightbox that has an even spread of light across the complete surface but it must also have a very firm surface. When used for drawing or tracing,the paper to be drawn on is placed on the surface of the Lightbox which will then show the design to be copied and using a drawing pen or pencil it can be traced. This creates a pressure on the surface of the Lightbox and therefore it has to be able to withstand this, so its surface construction must be very solid. These Lightboxes do not necessarily have to be able to open at the front as only the surface is generally used.

When using a Lightbox for displaying posters or art work, they have to have the facility of being able to open up at the front and have the poster inserted behind the front glass/acrylic panel. This will hold it in place and prevent people being able to interfere with it. This type of Lightbox does not necessarily have to have an equal distribution of light over the complete surface, but obviously this would be an advantage.

There are hundreds of Lighboxes on the market therefore it is very important to think carefully what you want it for before buying one.
