What Kind Of Reception Should I Have?

Receptions are a fun gathering meant to give your family and friends a chance to celebrate your wedding with you

. Receptions can be elaborate or simple backyard events.

However you choose to celebrate let your reception be an expression of you!

Some couples decide to have an intimate wedding with only a handful of guests present to watch them join their lives together. Others invite everyone they've known since childhood. Either way, the ceremony is one part of the gathering and the reception is another. Often, it is the gathering after the ceremony that takes up a majority of the cost involved with hosting a wedding.

The type of party after your wedding largely depends on you and your personality. Many couples pick a theme that shows something they love. If you are world-travelers, try a fun international theme with your favorite foods from places you've been together. Some couples have enjoyed weddings having to do with their favorite movies or places, Paris is a strong theme and something as fun and whimsical as a Disney theme is definitely unique! Make your theme an expression of the special aspects of your relationship with your spouse.

Of course, some couples have a difficult time choosing a theme as nothing feels particularly important or a signature expression of the couple. In this case, choosing some colors to coordinate your decor and give your reception the unique feel it deserves. You can combine your favorite color with your spouse's or try and find some colors that express you as a couple. Color coordination is often simpler to choose than a theme and it still makes your wedding reception special and memorable!

One important aspect of your reception is how you will greet your guests. Some couples have a line involving the entire wedding party where guests walk in and greet the happy couple and their wedding party. Some couples prefer to skip the line and simply walk around the venue and greet their guests at the tables and dance floor. This would certainly save your feet from having to get tired before the dancing even starts!

Speaking of dancing, it is usually a traditional part of a wedding reception to have the first dance by the couple and a dance for the bride and her father. Dancing is a terrific way to celebrate and many people choose to have dancing. The question of hiring a DJ or a live band is not an easy one. A live band is terrific although a DJ is fun in its own way. Decide which style of music is your favorite and go with whatever you feel would be best for you.

Overall, your reception will be wonderful so long as it is an expression of you and your special union. Don't expect everything to be absolutely flawless but do keep on the positive side while you plan and get excited about being able to celebrate your special day with all your family and friends!
