What Not To Do When Selling Your Cell Phone
This seems like it should be obvious, however
, after reviewing some complaint sites, it seems like something should be said about this. So I have laid out some pointers that people should avoid, or not do when selling their cell phone.
1. You should not assume you are going to get a certain amount of money. Just because you send in a phone does not automatically imply you will receive a certain amount of money. The amounts offered by various websites are estimations...only. They are estimations because they will be inspected by the buyer to see if they work and what do they look like cosmetically. About half of the sites are now self rating. That means you can rate your phone and the outcome will give you a price. But even if you are able to self rate, your device still has to be checked out. Dont forget, someone is giving you cash for a device. They have a right to have expectations. So the lessen here is to have reasonable expectations about the device you are sending in and to know whether or not it actually works. Never assume it is 100% function unless you know for sure.
2. You should not sell to a site that doesnt have a Selling Agreement. A selling agreement (or terms and conditions) are nothing more than a legal binding contract between two people. If a buyback site does not have a selling agreement, What then exactly would you be agreeing to when you send in your phone? My hunch is nothing which leaves them in complete control of your device. Thats bad....for you. Its also foolish so never engage in business with a buyback site that does not articulate some kind of agreement between themselves and you.
3. You should never avoid reading a Selling Agreement when selling your phone back. After you have found your device, entered in all your information and are ready to checkout you come to this small box that requests you to check before the site lets you complete your transaction. You should NEVER just check without reading what it is you are agreeing to! With all due respect, that is the dumbest thing you could ever do. How can you make an intelligent and informed decision? If you fail to read and send your device in you have set yourself up for potential frustration and disappointment. Make sure you read it and determine if it is well balanced. It should hold both parties to certain expectations and in essence, levels the playing field.
4. You should never leave your personal information on the phone you are selling back. No matter what a buyback company says, it is impossible for them to guarantee the safety of your personal information. To assume they can actually do this is as ridiculous as the claim itself. Always delete all you data before sending in. This is a no brainer! You would be surprised how many people send in phones loaded with information that could be damaging or embarrassing to the owner.
If you can do these four simple things, you should have good experience when you sell your phone!
