What Qualities Are Needed To Be A Good Leader?

With the economy going bad and with low profits than ever

, the retailers, producers, marketers and managers are de-motivated and worried. In such times when people are de-motivated and insecure what people need the most is a good leader with polished leadership and management qualities. Leaders are born or made? Well, I think leaders are made by experience, by continuous learning and by continuous guidance and training by a good leader. But the million dollar question is that what is leadership, what qualities are needed to be a good leader and how one can be a good leader?

In order to maintain good leadership and management, one should first know what one is trying to achieve and what one wants to deliver. Once clear that what he wants to achieve then comes the crew who are going to help him in achieving the set goals. This is the point where leadership management comes. Leadership is all about people: managing people, motivating people and directing people towards the goal.

If you want to be a good leader, you should have such a network of people who are ready to follow you. People are likely to follow a person when they get inspired by the leadership qualities of that leader. What are these leadership qualities? First inspire the people with your sincerity and integrity and also with your compassion. Communicate your vision and make them involved in your vision, incorporate their opinions, and value them. Make them believe that they are an integral part of your vision and your goals. At times, make some adjustments in that vision according to the need of time because it is not just about you but leadership is all about people. If you give your people every technology but do not take the people into proper consideration, you are setting yourself for a failure.

Physical presence of a leader is very important. In time of trouble you need to be among your people as actions speak louder than words. The physical presence of a leader gives the staff feeling that the leader is with them in this hard time and is ready to face every challenge. This motivates them and makes them work even harder with endurances. This is the reason managers are advised to execute vigorously.

One of an important issue for the leader is selection of right people on right jobs, because, for success, it is important to select the right people for the right positions. Leader should have the ability to recognize the polished or unpolished talent of the people. Here comes his quality of leadership development. A good leader always tries to make his successors through his leadership development recruiting. He must know how to polished hidden talents. Leadership management is the name of managing people, taking benefits of people talents and qualities. A good leader should recruit right people on right place. If leader recruit wrong people, they will take a company down with them. That is why it is important to inspire people. Leaders can inspire people by listening to them, solving their problem, communicating their own vision and making the people agree to it not by force but by discussion. A good leader should get feedback from his people time to time.

Values are very important when it comes to leadership and management. A leader should have values and principles which should be kept same for all the people, but if there is any adjustment required then the leader should do it. Once an American general said, "Give me a Canadian with integrity, loyalty, honesty, hard work and I will guarantee his success". It is also important for a leader to know about the values of his people, for example he should avoid any conflict with their religious values. The best way to do that is by directly discussing it with them.
