What To Consider Before A Facelift Operation

A facelift is a cosmetic procedure that is undertaken to improve the look of the face

. What it does is enhance the appearance of the facial skin by taking it back years. If your face is showing signs of aging, such as sagging skin or wrinkles, a rhytidectomy can restore your appearance.

During a facelift operation, the surgeon removes excess fat or skin. The tissues that are left behind are carefully lifted and contoured in order to offer the patient a more youthful and energized look. This is a good choice for the individual who is sad to witness the aging process taking place. When this procedure is done, a rejuvenated and fresher look is obtained by way of the lifting of skin, followed by the repositioning. There is also the removal of facial tissues that were targeted beforehand by the plastic surgeon.

The options for lift techniques are many. Some examples of these include:

- Traditional

- Mid

- Mini

- Temporal

- Deep Plane

- Platysmaplasty (or Submentoplasty)

- SMAS

- Cutaneous (removal of skin, no fat)

- Quick Lift (MACS)

- Feather Lift (Thread)

- Lifestyle

The majority of the facelift operations have as their focus the lower portions of the face. This would include the cheeks, jawline and jowls. However, there are some lift procedures that also offer work on the middle section of the face, or even the upper part of the face (the forehead). If you are particularly bothered by the look of the upper section of your face or your forehead, then a facelift is not the best option for you. Instead, you should speak to the plastic surgeon about a brow lift or forehead lift instead.

The time involved in undergoing a rhytidectomy may vary. It is dependent upon which technique you are having. Some involve more work on the part of the surgical team than do others.

Lifts performed on the face can be minor cosmetic procedures for some patients, while for others, these are major surgeries that involve a longer period of recuperation. An example of this would be the mini lift. Sometimes referred to as a weekend facelift, this type of cosmetic operation is less invasive than many of the other forms. While the healing period is more rapid, the results are also less dramatic than would be seen with a full rhytidectomy. A mini lift is often done by way of an endoscope, or through the use of a small tube, as opposed to an extensive cut being made to the face. In the cases where the cosmetic surgeon does decide to make incisions, they will be done in the natural creases found on the face, or else behind the hairline.
