What To Do If You Have A Winter Breakdown

Any careful drivers will have already sorted out their UK breakdown cover with the winter months now upon us. However, sometimes the inevitable just happens and you find yourself with a car that's just not working. Because of this, the experts at Rescue My Car have come up with some tips to help you deal with a winter breakdown.

Be Safe. The moment you realise that your car is about to break down, get out of traffic at the earliest possible opportunity. Pull onto the hard shoulder if you're on a carriageway that has one, and indicate that you're doing so. If there isn't a hard shoulder, then go as far to the left of the carriageway as possible and put your hazard lights on.

Keep Warm! With the winter months setting in, always ensure you have a decent stash of blankets with you so you can keep warm whilst waiting for your UK breakdown cover to arrive. If possible, also bring some food and a flask of hot drink with you.

Call For Help. Once you've moved into as safe a position as possible, then make the call for help. If you've been careful and obtained your UK breakdown cover, then call that company if not, then try and alert motorway services so they can ensure the safety of other drivers too.

Increase Awareness. Always keep a warning triangle and a high visibility vest with you when driving in the winter, as this will mean that you constantly alert other drivers to your presence which will minimise accidents.
