What To Look For When Finding The Causes Behind Dry Eyes
Dry eyes sometimes also lead to a range of other diseases namely
, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Jorgen's syndrome and ocular rosacea. Jorgen's syndrome is a disease with a combination of dry eyes, dry mouth and rheumatoid arthritis. Users of contact lens are frequent complainants of dry eyes. Frequent touching of lens against the eyes also leads to dry eyes.
Even a deficiency in one of the layers of tears may result in dry eyes. Tears contain mainly three layers that are the topmost fat layer, the watery layer or more specifically lacrimal layer and the mucus layer. There is a specific gland for producing each of these layers. Thus, a difficulty in each of these glands can possibly cause dry eyes. One of the common causes of dry eyes is hormone imbalance and thus, women are more prone to dry eyes. However, recent studies have shown that, smoking also causes dry eyes.
Since a few years, people are complaining of dry eyes after undergoing plastic eyelid surgery. Dry eyes also occur due to drying of the tear film. Sometimes dry eyes may occur due to absolutely dry and cool air and hot air or such extreme conditions. Dry eyes syndrome is a common condition faced by many people around the world. In some cases, you may see sudden rise in the quantity of tears. This is also a condition of dry eyes, though the reasoning seems quite peculiar.
If both the eyelids stick together after a good sleep, then this may cause dry eyes too. If any section of the lacrimal unit has a problem, then it can affect the entire tear system. Sometimes, when the tear film do not protects the eyes, the immune system releases some unique cells namely infection-fighting cells. This can lead to more serious cases of dry eyes syndrome. As hormones play an active part in the production of tears, hormonal imbalance can affect the tear production drastically. Exposure to environment in high altitudes can also cause dry eyes. This is mainly because of the temperature and the rate of humidity in the air.
Eyestrain caused by reading, sewing, writing and working on computer may also open the paths for the occurrence of dry eyes, as these require less blinking of the eyelids. One of the causes for dry eyes is Blepharitis.
Blepharitis is a condition resulting from reddening of the eyelid outlines. The bacterium Staphylococci is the causative factor for this particular infection. This bacterium eliminates a toxic waste, which causes constant irritation. Meibomitis is another dry eyes condition, which is similar to Blepharitis. Meibomitis is an inflammation of the meibomian glands producing lipids or more precisely fats. The fat layer of the tear reduces the rate of evaporation of water in your eyes. When the meibomian glands become somewhat heavy, the transparency of tears become poor.
All these are some of the prime causes of dry eyes. In case, you are suffering from any of the above-mentioned conditions, then you need to consult an eye specialist to treat the problem at the earliest.
