The best place to start is with your own interests and passions. You are a subject matter expert on the things that mean the most to you and, more importantly, you know what you would like to purchase within that niche market. Believe it or not, there are potentially thousands, tens of thousands or even millions of people that share your interests and passions and would, therefore, be interested in purchasing the same items as you.

Your own mind is a gold mine of ideas!

Not only does your mind contain the very knowledge as to what to sell on eBay for profit, but it can also help you to create auctions that other people are desperately searching for.

Before starting to create your own auctions though, its time to put some of the potential within your brain down on paper. Think of an area that you are interested in or have some knowledge about. It could be anything, from household appliances to the latest mobile phones, fantasy books to dieting; write down anything that you can think of.

Now, from your list start to think of products that you yourself would be interested in purchasing within each of those areas, and write them next to the area itself. For example, if your area of expertise is mobile phones, you could write down second hand iPhones, or if you are an expert on a variety of different diets, one potential product might be a how to diet ebook. Keep thinking of ideas until you cant think of anything else.

With your list of ideas its time to take to eBay itself to see whether those products that you have listed are being sold and if so, for how much.

Use eBays Advanced Search to look at completed listings. It will give you a great indication as to the quantity of items being sold. Remember that you are discovering what to sell on eBay for profit, so you need to find items for which there is a demand, but not necessarily much competition.

Following a few hours spent looking around eBay, you should start to have an idea as to which of your areas of expertise that you could begin to use to make your eBay fortune. Use whatever means works best for you to source your product, be it selling some old household goods, visiting charity shops or using a wholesale supplier. Once you are stocked up, use your valuable brain again to create effective auctions; you know what you would like to see if you were the buyer, so put that knowledge to good use by creating informative descriptions and accurate titles.

It wont take long for you to work out what to sell on eBay for profit at every auction that you list. Dont ever forget the vast volume of knowledge stored within your mind, because it could be the ticket to your eBay success.
