What We Can Learn From Princess Victoria And Chelsea Clinton

When Princess Victoria got married on June 19

, 2010, she chose to ignore a 200-year-old tradition in Sweden. For 200 years, the wedding couple has walked down the aisle together. Princess Victoria wanted her father to walk her down the aisle. She compromised so that she was able to please herself and Sweden; her father walked her halfway down the aisle and she and her soon-to-be husband walked for the remainder of the way.

When it comes to the guest list, many times your parent's list is longer than that of you and your Fiance, so what do you do? Tell your parents no? Due to the joyous nature of the occasion, parent want everyone to share in your special day which may mean for them, inviting everyone that helped you become the person you arr today. That may mean inviting your babysitter, their past coworkers, and Aunt Lucy you haven't seen in 10 years, amongst others. Chelsea Clinton said no to that. If she did not know you, you will not be invited to the wedding. Period.

There are so many ways to make your wedding your own and make sure it speaks to you and your personalities and who you truly are. If you and your spouse to be are in the theater, why not have a dinner play incorporated into your reception? Do you like the medieval time periods? Have yourselves as well as your wedding party dress in medieval times. You could even request that your guests do so as well, although remember that everyone may not want to participate. It is another great way to incorporate them into your big day.

Maybe you don't want to invite the neighborhood, but prefer a small, intimate wedding with 50 of your closest friends and family. Maybe you don't want to have a wedding cake or toss your bouquet. That is perfectly fine.

Princess Victoria and Chelsea have both chosen to not follow tradition or at least tweak it a little by making their wedding their own, which is what I always say you should do!

Remember that any time you go away from tradition there is usually much talk about it, but that is okay. Just make sure that you are prepared to deal with the questions and comments should they arise. Ultimately, it is your day and your guests should respect that.

How do you feel about that? Do you applaud Princess Victoria and Chelsea Clinton for doing what they wanted or do you think they should just follow tradition?

What ways have you chosen to not follow tradition in your own wedding?

Are you thinking about doing something a little different for your wedding? Go ahead!

Happy Planning!
