What are all the ways to Shorten the Faux Wood Blinds
Faux wood blinds are the perfect alternative to wood blinds and they are cheap. Actually Faux wood window blinds are the combination of both vinyl and hardwood. They are termed as faux wood blinds since they are resembling wooden blinds. However, they are more durable than real wood and are suitable for all rooms of the home, even those with high levels of humidity. Faux wood blinds are also much easier to clean than wood blinds. The main reason for the popularity of faux wood blinds among most of the homeowners is, they like the look of blinds to their windows. If you've purchased the faux wood blinds which are too tall or don't fit the window space properly, no need to remove them or install a different set. Don;t worry, it's fairly easy to shorten faux wood blinds and adjust the rails so that the blinds still function properly and look attractive. Here's what you need to do for shortening the faux wood blinds,
Decide how many slats you want to remove from the blinds:
Use the measuring tape or measuring scale to precisely measure the number of slats you need to remove. Removing too many will produce an unattractive gap; removing too few will leave you in your current situation. Measure up to the point of complete window coverage, and then count how many slats fill up the remaining area when the blinds are completely closed. When you have this number, subtract one; this will be your ideal number of slats you need to remove.
Remove the first slat:
Completely lower the blinds and extend the cord as much as possible. Take the blinds off the window and lay them down on a flat surface. Just extinguish the plastic plugs located on the underside of the bottom rail; these plugs hold the cord and slats in place. Hold onto the cord that controls the blinds (not the cord that the slats are resting on), and cut the cord right above the knot. You may need to use a pair of tweezers to pull out the knot in order to cut right above it. Once cut, slowly remove the bottom rail and set it aside. Gently remove the number of slats you have decided to remove, you will need to tug on them slightly and pull them downward and off the cords. Set these aside.
Put the blinds back together:
Now it is the time to supersede the bottom rail. Pull the strings and cords back through the holes of the bottom rail, and slide it up towards the last slat. Tie small knots on the bottom of each cord so that the bottom rail is securely fastened in place. Hold this section up slightly so that the bottom rail is resting evenly and securely on your knots, then extend between 5-6 inches of the excess cord under the bottom rail before trimming the rest.
Add the push plugs:
Place the excess cord into the push plugs so that they will be hidden from view, and safe in a place. Make sure whether the push plugs are completely safe before re-hanging the blinds.
Hang the blinds:
Re-hang the blinds on the wall, and slowly haul on the release cord. Blinds should open easily, and the bottom rail will now end at the window sill.
Shortening the size of your Faux wood blind is really a simple process. Don't forget to save the slats you have removed, since you can use them as a replacement while other slats become damaged. If you decide to lengthen the blinds at another point in time, all you need to do is lengthen the blind with the cord and add the extra slats. This method of shortening the Faux wood blinds will works just as well for other styles of venetian blinds, and can save you time and money from hiring a professional blinds handyman or company. Don't cut off too much of the cord, once you have removed the extra slats; if too much cord is removed, you may need to find a set of replacement blinds.
