What is LoadRunner

Load Runner is a tool for performance testing. It can stress test your entire application to isolate and identify potential client, network, and server bottlenecks.

One of the objectives of using Load Runner is to simulate the real time scenario where multiple users concurrently login to use a given application.

The time needed for the application to load and perform the desired activities can then be obtained to improve the design of the application.

Once the Load runner is installed scripts of a given scenario is recorded by directly logging to instance and replaying the same in an environment which simulates real time scenarios.

The Three Main Components of Loadrunner Are -

1)Virtual User Generator: This is used to create the script which can be used to replay later on. It allows you to record a single protocol or a multiple protocol script. The scripts once prepared will have hard coded data values of the scenario for which the recording was done but to simulate real time scenarios the data such as login and the corresponding details will vary. In order to provide this flexibility parameterization is used.

2) Controller: This is used to simulate the real time scenario using the scripts prepared using Virtual User Generator. Once the scripts have been prepared they can be put in the controller and then the script appropriately loaded to simulate the real time scenarios Once the script is loaded the Global Schedule can be scheduled to set the Start Vusers (ramp up time), Duration of the entire run and Stop Vusers (ramp down time)

3) Analysis: This is used to analyze the graphs and timelines data obtained once Controller simulates the script. Once the script has been run using the Controller, the results of the load testing can be saved and viewed in analyzer.

After the controller has run the script we can view the results by clicking on Results Analyze Results
