What is Pawn Stars?

Established in 1988. Rick Harrison and his family have been running their 24/7 pawn shop, Gold & Silver Pawn, for over twenty years. Currently, G&S Pawn is the setting for 'Pawn Stars', a reality show that premiered on the History Channel in 2009.

Customers are filmed bringing in various items to be either sold or pawned based on their value and authenticity. Throughout each episode, experts are brought in to explain about the history of the artifact as well as to appraise them. Many times, they come to an agreed price, but sometimes an agreement is not made, even violent encounters ensue when certain customers find that their prized possession is nothing but a knock-off replica or complete and utter fake.

Another dimension to Pawn Stars that fans find entertaining is the interaction between the cast members themselves. One notable cast member and viewer favorite, Chumlee, is seen as a gullible, lazy, yet lovable employee whose antics are seen as either annoying or enthralling by his fellow pawn brokers. Chumlee has created much sensation since the show's debut, going so far as having merchandise with his face plastered on them.

The show's viewership is diverse to due its educational, as well as entertainment nature, making it a great program for viewers of all ages. Many would agree that this crossover of Antiques Roadshow and American Choppers will become a staple of American television for years to come.
