Careers in cosmetology involve improvements on physical appearance. So, if you plan to be a cosmetologist, your job would be to help other people look their best by giving flattering haircuts, hair color, make-up, and hairstyles. Also, you will need to give your clients manicures, pedicures, facials, and other services that can make them feel good about themselves.

Cosmetology careers are not only creative but very versatile, as well. You can work in a spa, a hospital, a salon, a cruise ship, or even at home. You can also choose to work full-time or part-time. In order to be a certified cosmetologist, however, you need to pass certain requirements. For instance, you must be at least sixteen years old. You have to have attended high school and a licensed cosmetology school. If there is no cosmetology school in your area, however, you should have at least enrolled in a cosmetology program at your local trade school or community college and completed the full course of study. You must have passed the Cosmetology Licensing Exam in your state and have earned an associate degree. You must have undergone proper training too. The number of months for training varies. Cosmetology and hairstyling training programs last for about nine months or longer while manicurist training programs may last for about ten months.

Once you reach professional level, you will then have a chance to earn substantially. Cosmetology is a field that never crashes. There will always be a need for manicurists, hairstylists, and make-up artists. People will always want to look great whether they are male, female, young, or old. Cosmetology careers are up for advancements too. You can be promoted to a managerial position or become a training instructor. You can be a sales representative for beauty products. You can be a franchise operator or you can establish your own salon. You can also get a job as a business consultant or be a manager for beauty trade shows. There are just so many opportunities waiting for you out there. All you need to do is do your best in the cosmetology field and make the most of your good luck.
