What to Use on your skin?
Should you mix and match different skincare brands or stick to one brand and follow the complete regime? Julie provides some insight into pro's and cons for both arguments.
I was asked recently, "what do you use on your skin ?" to which I admit I struggled to answer honestly.
Did I reel out the list of numerous products I have been testing, and ultimately using of late to really confuse them, or did I answer with what I should have been doing myself, that I was religiously following the regime my skincare brand of choice was recommending?
Be honest, or be a little colourful with the truth? Well I was honest!
However it did make be reassess was what I was actually doing to my skin and re-evaluate my daily routine.
I am sure you will agree that we have all mixed various brands and products together at some point, if not as standard, but is there any basis, and indeed benefit to sticking to one brand and system to achieve maximum results from your skincare, or is it just a marketing ploy to encourage us to buy into the whole product range ?
I have often heard the expression that your skin 'gets used to` products if used over time, this however is not the case. Skin does not have the ability to remember products, but what you may find is that if you change a product, the texture and ingredients are going to be different so that it will feel different on the skin, leading you to believe that your skin has responded quicker to the new product.
I do believe that a change can be beneficial especially if you are not achieving the results you expect, but I also strongly believe that products within a range or brand are formulated to compliment each other. Be selective of course, but to randomly mix products just confuses you, how do you know what is working and what isn't?
Certain ingredients may not work well together and ultimately cost you money to find out what works for you.
A good skincare analysis, a budget and time available to you are all key factors which should be taken into consideration when purchasing, which is what we at The Cosmetic Practice offer.
