Among the big trends in hotels nowadays is offering a free breakfast for guests each morning. It can be basic, like cold cereal and juice or coffee available in the lobby, up to much more intricate spreads.

Of course, the expense of these "free" breakfasts is built into the price of the room, however that's not necessarily a bad thing; especially if you obtain a good deal on the room. Sometimes you can obtain a discounted price on a meal in the hotels restaurant which is nice, because then you can use your discount towards something you actually like and not just hope that they have something in the lobby that you could have.

Sometimes these meals are advertised as hot breakfast, however, you have to look at the details because that may mean that there's just a microwave or toaster available to heat up a Danish or waffle. Still, these things aren't bad if that is what you're expecting and really anything is better than nothing, especially because a lot of people do not eat breakfast anyway. But looking at the fine print, the details will at least get you prepared for what you can expect.

And expecting something, even if it's not the greatest takes away, the sting of disappointment when you discover the truth that you did not expect. All of these amenities can be looked over before hand and compared to other hotels online. You can see what they offer and what they do not offer and then make up your mind. Maybe it doesn't matter to you that one hotel has breakfast and the other one does not but is $50 cheaper a night.

That $50 might be worth much more to you than a view or workout facilities or a free breakfast. It is all up to the individual and with the ability to look and compare online, these choices are much easier to make because the access to the information is so much more available that it was in the past. No more surprises, you know what to expect from the time you step into the hotel until the time your stay is over.
