Whats In A Name?

So lets see, I have seen boats with names and even special ceremonies for them with the whole christening and breaking of the bottle thing

. I personally have named my cars. Why do we do that? Whats in a name? It isnt like they are children to us or pets. And if so many people label these vehicles, why dont more name their RVs?

Like searching for a babys name, there are many, many places that will come up when searching for names of boats or how to name your boat. It is interesting to me that cars tend to be a persons name. Perhaps we feel they are our companions on the road. Boats seem to tell a story. You see many with a deceased loved ones name on the back of the boat or something like Obsession that actually explains a little about the owner without even knowing them. So in naming your RV, your home away from home, what would it be?

In peeking around the internet, christening your RV is done and there seems to be a couple of different ways people think when deciding.

Some go sentimental. Men tend to name theirs after a tenderness for their wives such as Her Tent, Love Shack, or Her Majestys Quarters. Insulting or sweet, do you think? I suppose it could go either way if you were the wife. He may end up not liking that name anymore if circumstances were to change!

So perhaps a label of protection for you? What about Beast, The Ghost, or The Bears Den? Those all sound like great choices for a place that is to keep you and your family safe. But then what happens as time goes on and that Beast gets tired? Do you simply keep it based on nostalgia?

When all else fails, sarcasm and light hearted humor works too. I found names I cant mention, probably christened out of frustration one day, and some that are hilarious and ride the inappropriate line. However, they made me laugh. So maybe a great memory that promotes harmony for your outings. Or possibly finding a fun spin on an ugly color?

Whatever direction you wish to go, naming your RV should be fun. If you search names on the internet, stay away from lists that are a Top Ten or similar. You become less unique when you take a popular one. That is just how it goes. Make people sit up and take notice, maybe chuckle a little as you drive by. Be different.

Once you have figured it out, find an artist to paint for you or a person who deals in vinyl lettering to cut your words for you to apply to your RV. Vinyl has a fairly long life and is washable but can be changed if you sell someday. Painting looks beautiful and professional if your artist knows their stuff, but it is permanent. I must say, it is pretty hard to prime and paint over a factory paint job if you bought an RV called something you cant live with. Really, vinyl is a favorite tool of mine for many things!

Now that you have a little background on where to start, sit down with your family and name that summer home of yours. Have a great time brainstorming ideas until the perfect one comes up! Once you have a name you can get on with your RV travel or if you prefer to only dip your toes in at first, you can go with RV Rentals instead.
