What's In An E Cigarette

Many individuals interested in switching from regular cigarettes to electronic cigarettes

are wary to do so because they are uncertain of the ingredients of e cigarettes, so Ive composed a list of some chemical ingredients and their effects and purposes.

Vanillin (2%) Artificial Flavoring

Trimethylpyrazine (.5%) Artificial Flavoring

p-Menth 1-en-8-ol (1.0%) This is often used as a microbiocide, or disinfected. Long-term effects are unknown.

Pyrazin-1-ylethan-1-one (0.4%) A heterocyclic aromatic organic compound. May cause respiratory tract irritation, although toxicological properties have not been fully investigated.

Guaiacol (.5%) Colorless aromatic oil present in wood smoke. Used to flavor roasted coffee.

Beta- Damascone (0.3%) Flavor and fragrance agent. Toxicity not determined.

5-Methylfurfural (0.5%) Flavor and fragrance agent. Toxicity not determined.

Tobacco absolute (5%) Flavor and fragrance agent. Thick liquid extracted from tobacco leaves. Toxicity not determined.

Trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one (2.0%) Odor agent. Toxic when inhaled

Glycerol (25%) A simply polyol compound that is sweet-tasting and has low toxicity.

Propane (57.1%) A gas that may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and eventual unconsciousness.

Methyl 3-pyridyl ketone (0.2%) Toxic chemical.

I am not a chemist, but I did the best I could to research these ingredients. Several of the ingredients in electronic cigarettes have proven harmful, and others have been untested.

The Dangers of Tobacco-burning Cigarettes:

Approximately 60 of the chemicals in tobacco-burning cigarettes are known to cause cancer. These carcinogens include: tobacco-specific N-nitrosamines, Benzene, Pesticides, Formaldehyde, Arsenic, Cadmium, Ammonia, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Cyanide, Nicotine. Additionally, whereas electronic cigarettes do not cause second hand smoke inhalation, tobacco-burning cigarettes are known to be harmful to those in the vicinity of the smoker.
