One of the nicest and most expensive accessories that you can install in a new mobility vehicle is a wheelchair ramp or lift. Wheelchair lifts are perfect for helping you get your scooter or wheelchair in and out of the car with ease. Most of them are motorized, which means you don't have to do a lot of work to enter and exit your car. If you feel that you just can't afford a brand new motorized version, there are some manual versions, or you could consider used wheelchair lifts to install.

You may need to consider a transfer seat to help you get behind the wheel of your new van or SUV, too. As with the wheelchair lifts, you can find fancy motorized transfer seats that make the job as easy as possible. Many of these turn sideways and drop low to the ground so that you can simply move from chair to driver's seat. Of course, these electric versions do cost more money, but you don't have to let that stop you from getting a transfer seat if you need one. There are manual versions that will allow you to slide easily from your wheelchair to your place behind the wheel.

Once you are inside your vehicle, you will need to consider ways to keep your chair or scooter stationary as you drive. Restraint systems are a definite necessity if you plan to keep your wheelchair in the car with you. The Q'Straint system is probably the easiest to use, with automated locking mechanisms. If this is outside your price range, you can certainly use the general tie-down system, though they are not quite as easy to use.

As you can see, there is no reason for you to pass up any of the features that you need or want in your new vehicle. You can find used or manual versions of almost anything, and all of these choices will work just fine with getting you out and about.
