When Is It Time To Repair The Furnace

Last winter, did you have a few days towards the end of the season when you just didn't feel like the house was warm enough

? Did you check the thermostat, to see if the house was the temperature where you had it set at? Was it turned off? The dreaded time has come where you might need to have the furnace repaired, before the winter season kicks in, in order to be warm and cozy on the cold winter days.

There is also a time when you need to consider replacing your old furnace instead of making more repairs. How can you tell when it is the time? The HVAC technician can come to your house and do an evaluation on your current furnace. Is it running fine, producing heat, and getting up through the blower and into all of the rooms correctly? When a furnace is still working properly, then you might just need a maintenance check or need to have it serviced before the cold season starts.

The problems come when the furnace isn't performing correctly. Do you have spells where there isn't warm air coming up from the ducts? That might mean a heating coil or element is not working in the furnace unit. It could also mean there is a blockage in the duct, so you will want to have it checked out right away. A blocked duct can be just as bad as a poorly running furnace, at least for the person who is stuck in the cold room!

Other furnace problems could be in the tubes and wiring of the furnace. A certified HVAC technician will be able to come in and look at the system and see where the problem lies. Does it just have parts that have corroded out and need replacing? Replacing parts can take from a couple of hours to several days, depending on if they carry the part in stock.

Depending on the part, the cost could be very low or it could run several hundreds of dollars. Is this the first time you have done a repair on the furnace? Then, it is probably safe to keep doing repairs and upgrades so that your furnace continues to be in tip-top shape. However, have you been putting money into the furnace system for years now, and it keeps failing in one aspect or another, no matter what you do? Then, it might be time to search for a more efficient, reliable furnace for your home.

When the HVAC technician comes out to the house to look at your system, a professional will give you an honest evaluation. They will give you the cost for repairs and if they think it is worth it or not. They could also tell you if they think the current furnace is almost done working, and that a new one would work better for you and your family. They will also set your expectations to what the time frame is for a repair, or how long a new installation would take. Ask them any questions you have on your furnace and what repairs need to be done so you understand what is happening and why it is happening. Professional HVAC technicians will answer all the questions you have during any step of the repair process.
