The sheets could be cut into halves or even thirds and reused if the situation permits you to do so. Another alternative would be using dryer balls to absorb the moisture in the clothes.

This may be not too common for some but the reason behind this is hot water dissolves detergent residue much quicker and better than cold water. Since residues tend to become the smelly culprit, it is but practical to do a hot soak perhaps at least once a week to dissolve any detergent residue.
