While some common materials may be available at hobby stores, theres usually a definite limit to the sophistication of the products available at those stores and, ultimately, to their quality, as well.

Businesses, teachers, artists and people who just have a passing interest in art can usually find interesting products among the art supplies at specialty stores. Theyre usually designed for the professional, which has its advantages for the everyday consumer, as well. Rather than catering to those with only a hobby interest, these suppliers have to assume that their clients are the top artists in their given fields and have to stock accordingly. For those who are hobbyists, this means that the products available at art suppliers are of a much higher quality than in the past and that the prices are affordable and attractive.
