Which Accountancy Qualification Is Right For Me?

Accountancy encompasses numerous fields including financial consultancy

, management consultancy, secretarial services and auditing. It can be found in all business sectors; sectors such as private sector, public sector, commerce and banking.

The professional bodies offer a number of specialised qualifications to take a budding accountant and lead them to one of the aforementioned career paths. These qualifications can be studied at universities or colleges offering higher education. Some of these bodies offer qualifications recognised throughout the world: qualifications such as ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA among others.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) The holy grail of professional accountancy qualifications, the ACCA now sees examination centres in over 10 countries where accountancy students can take their exam, available to sit every June and December. There is also an option to obtain a dual-qualification: both the ACCA and a BA (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) The CIMA has over 50 centres throughout the world. From it's originated in 1919, it is now the world's premier management accountancy body. There are fifteen exam papers in total which cover four levels: TOPCIMA, Strategic, Managerial and Certificate. Examinations are held every May and November.

These professional bodies understand the modern climate and try to fulfil the needs of all kinds of people in all kinds of circumstance. That's why they have available, numerous options to study their courses. Whether you want to learn full or part-time, by correspondence, distance learning or home study, there is a viable route to study open to you. You could even choose a combination of the above. Universities also offer accountancy qualifications including both CIMA and ACCA. Students if they wished could also take a degree at a top university and opt not to take certain exam papers.
