OEM Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridges are made by the same manufacturer as the printer they are used in (e.g. HP Cartridge for HP printer) or they can be made by suppliers authorized by the printer manufacturers. While these are the cartridges often preferred for machines under warranty, they are generally the more expensive alternative, however with guaranteed results.
Compatible Cartridges These cartridges are copies made by generic or off-brand manufacturers that are intended to be a low cost alternative to OEMs. Many manufacturers will tell you that such cartridges are of lower quality, smaller capacity and can void your printers warranty. Generally this has been seen to be untrue in light of the comparable quality.
Remanufactured Cartridges Here we have the eco-friendly cartridge option. These are used cartridges that have been obtained by the remanufacturer for cleaning and refilling. This recycled option is as effective as either the compatible or OEM types and fairly cost-effective.
Ink Refill Kits These kits are designed for those who would prefer to recycle their cartridges themselves. Each kit comes with detailed instructions on how to properly clean and refill the used cartridge. But be warned that while this is a low cost option, it can be rather messy and is far more likely to void your warranty if anything goes wrong.
