One?s hair style is one of the first things anybody will notice in a person. For a woman, hair style is something that she may be very concerned about as it defines her overall look and beauty. Women?s hair styles have evolved through time, and women now are more experimental and adventurous when it comes to their hair. The question, now, is this: What are the modern hairstyles for women?

Number one: The ponytail. A ponytail is a hair style in which most or all of the hair on the head is pulled away from the face, gathered and secured at the back of the head with a hair tie, clip or similar device, and allowed to hang freely from that point. Women who have medium length or long hair can wear this type of hair style. This casual look is created by gathering hair into a single bundle, and then securing it with an elastic or tie. There are many variations of the ponytail, such as wearing it tightly or loosely at the back, top, or side of the head.

Number two: The bob. A bob cut is a short hair cut not only worn by women but men as well, in which the hair is typically cut straight around the head just below jaw-length, often with a fringe or bangs at the front. This hair style first became popular in the 1920s, during which women flappers cut their hair as a way of demonstrating their independence. As the 1930s approached, women started to grow their hair longer, and the sharp lines of the bob were abandoned. But now, hair styles from the past centuries are gradually coming back with a vengeance and with a modern twist.

Number three: The French twist. Speaking of twist, the French twist is a form of updo that is created by gathering hair in a low ponytail and twisting the ponytail upwards until it turns in on itself against the head, and then secured with pins, clips, sticks, or a comb. Considered as a professional look, it is often worn for formal occasions as well as in business settings.
