If you or your child is suffering from a lice infestation, you should strongly consider the various home head lice remedies that are available to help you eliminate it. Mix 2 to 3 tablespoons of tea tree essential oil with a cup of olive oil and rub it onto the scalp and hair. Leave the solution for 3 minutes, before shampooing your hair, in order to remove the grease. After that, use white vinegar to wash your hair and to loosen the gluey substance that enables nits to hold firmly onto the hair shaft. Leave your hair soaked with white vinegar for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Repeat, rinsing your hair with vinegar twice. Then, start combing your hair with a flea comb to get rid of the remaining nits.

Pour olive oil onto the hair and spread it all over, particularly the area at the back of the neck and behind the ears. Cover the head with a plastic shower cap and leave it there overnight. The next morning, comb your hair using a flea comb and rinse it with your regular shampoo and conditioner to remove or lessen the grease. Rinse it again using white vinegar and hot water to remove the vinegar from the hair. This will dissolve the nits but should be repeated as long as necessary.

Using a few tablespoons of mayonnaise, warm it and slather it onto the hair. Cover it with a shower cap for 30 minutes and then rinse the hair using a regular shampoo. Use a fine-toothed comb to remove the nits and lice out. Then, rinse your hair again with water.

Create a mixture of vinegar and any kind of edible oil - canola, olive or vegetable - in equal quantity. Add at least 18 to 20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Mix all 3 ingredients well and apply it to wet hair. Carefully massage it onto the scalp and comb the hair from roots to tips. Cover the head with a plastic bag or shower cap and leave it for no less than 3 hours. Comb the hair again to eliminate dead lice and then wash the hair using an ordinary shampoo and conditioner. This is one of my favorite home head lice remedies.

When using any of these home head lice remedies, particularly on a child, make sure not to leave them unattended. This is especially true when using a plastic bag as an alternative for a shower cap, as plastic bags may cause suffocation.
