You've made the first decision to install a pool in your backyard, now you need to make the next choice what material will you choose for your pool? Keep in mind you will be making a big commitment and will be spending a good amount of cash to realize the dream of pool ownership so take some time to look into the different types of materials that are available.

You want to make sure the pool looks good, fits with your backyard dcor and something that fits in with your budget. Your pool is a long-term investment and also keep in mind if you ever decide to sell your home you will have to consider what a potential buyer will think of the pool.

Among the myriad things you need to take into consideration when you are pool-shopping are the various types of pools you can install or contract to have installed they are:

Vinyl A vinyl liner is used in much the same manner as the concrete pool with a hole being dug and the liner being set in once support walls have been constructed. With a vinyl pool you can choose from myriad patterns and styles. After the liner is placed, coping is affixed to the tops of the walls and holes are cut for drains and skimmers.

Above ground pool You may be able to install an above ground pool with or without the help of a contractor. Above ground pools cane come in various shapes and sizes and depending on the depth of the pool you'd like you can excavate to make a deep or shallow ends. Also, if you move, you can take the pool with you. The pool will come with assembly instructions.

Gunite (concrete) pools With a concrete pool, the material determines the shape of the pool because there will not be any sort of preformed shell. Your pool contractor will dig a hold, create a grid pattern for the pool shape with steel rebar and then lay the electrical and plumbing lines. Following this, gunite is sprayed behind and around the rebar. Once the gunite has been sprayed, coping is installed; coping is the rim that forms the cap to the top of the walls and forms the barrier from the pool to the deck. Coping can be made of concrete blocks, bricks or other material. Following this, the gunite cures for a week and is then finished with plaster. After the plaster has been applied, the pool is filled because the water cures the plaster.

Fiberglass With a fiberglass pool, a shell is delivered to your home in one piece and is fitted into an area that has been excavated. Remember, if you choose a fiberglass pool because it is delivered all in one piece you have to have room for a flatbed truck and a crane to be able to drive into the pool area to drop the pool shell off. Once the fiberglass shell is properly in place the pool is filled at the same rate that the sides of the walls are packed with sand (this keeps the shell from bulging when it's being filled). A concrete deck is poured around after the pool is filled to lock it into place.

Know that even though there are so many things to take into consideration when putting in a pool, if you find a good contractor they will help you through the steps. At the end of the process, you will have a pool your family will enjoy for years to come.
