Whirlyball is a relatively new sport played in various states across the US and in Canada
. While it is not always easy to find a whirlyball center given that a special area is required to play, if you happen to have a whirlyball center in your area it is well giving it a try because the mayhem that breaks out on a court is unimaginably fun and very entertaining.
The game dates back to the beginning of the 60's when Stan Mangum (the game's creator) was working on inventing a more agile type of bumper car. This smaller and more mobile electrical car quickly became known as a Whirlybug, which is now the main component of a whirlyball game.
While Mangum created the vehicle that is used in the game, it was his son who actually spread the game throughout the states by opening Flo-Tron Enterprises which supplies all of the equipment needed for the game.
Whirlyball combines the action and strategy lacrosse, indoor golf, hockey and basketball, with the excitement and thrill of Bumper Cars.The rules are quite similar to lacrosse and are simple outside of the fact that a player sits in a bumper car to play. Players are split into two teams with a hoop on both sides and have to pass the ball using scoops down the court. The team with the highest score at the end of the game is declared the winner and everyone else gets to enjoy the sheer joy of buzzing around the court in bumper cars.
