Who Can Get Dental Implants?

Dental implants can be used for various needs that one might have for teeth

. These implants work with helping to add new artificial teeth into one's gums. However it helps to know that not all people can be candidates for dental implants. Here are some things with regards to who can and cannot get implants.

An important thing to see about getting implants is the amount of bone in an area where teeth are missing. This area should be one that covers enough space for the teeth to be able to fit in. With a good sized area the implants will be able to fit into one's mouth and will be able to stay in one place.

The amount of teeth that are missing can be important to see. In many cases an implant is not going to be needed for only one tooth. For areas in one's mouth where two or more teeth are missing in a row it is best to look into using an implant. People who are missing more than half of their teeth are ones that can be especially good candidates for dental implants.

People with healthy gums will be able to get implants too. The gums that one has will need to be surgically opened to help with getting implants installing into one's mouth. The gums should be healthy enough to handle being cut open and sealed back up so that they will be able to properly heal after the surgery ends. If the gums are not healthy enough then the candidate for dental implants will need to wait on getting implants.

Treating the gums properly can help though. In additional to improved oral care the patient will have to contact a dentist to help with clearing out deposits and other materials that can impact the gums.

It will be important for people who are not qualified to get implants to avoid them because of the potential of one's mouth rejecting the implants. If implants are rejected the mouth could suffer from an infection and other teeth could be seriously harmed.

Dental implants are great for all sorts of people but it helps to get an idea of who should be getting these implants. People with enough space for handling implants and people who are missing more teeth can be eligible to get implants. Those who have unhealthy gums will not be able to get them but they can over time after they correct their gums.
