Why Digital Slr Cameras Are Preferred By Professional Photographers
Digital SLR cameras are the latest inventions in the camera and photo industry
. These cameras use pentaprism and mechanical mirror system so that light can be directed from the camera lens in to an optical viewfinder that is positioned at its back.
How do digital SLR cameras operate
For the purposes of viewing, the digital SLR cameras mirror reflects the light that comes through the lens that is attached upwards at an angle of 90 degrees. The roof pentaprism then reflects this light threefold, effectively rectifying it for the eye of the photographer.
At the time of exposure, the mirror assembly makes an upward swing and at the same time the aperture narrows while the shutter opens thus allowing the lens to make projection of light to camera image sensor. The second shutter will then cover the sensor in order to end the exposure; at this time, the mirror will lower while the shutter will reset.
The process that has just been described takes place very quickly and usually in duration of milliseconds. The modern DSLR cameras can do that up to 10 times in only one second. Photographers refer to the duration in which the mirror is flipped up as the viewfinder blackout. The good digital SLR cameras have a mirror, and a shutter that is very fast acting so as to avoid delaying actions on the photos being taken.
The designs principles of digital SLR cameras
There are seven principles that are present in all the digital SLR cameras in the market.
These principles are
Condenser lens
Eye piece
Focal plane shutter
Image sensor
Lens of four elements
Matte focusing screen
Pentaprism
Reflex mirror
These cameras use mirror to show the image to be captured in viewfinder. The side-view of the cameras optical components show the way the light passes through the assembly of lens (Lens of four elements). The reflex mirror reflects light in to pentaprism which projects it to the matte focusing screen. Through condenser lens and roof pentaprism internal reflections, the image is projected via the eye piece up to the eye of the photographer.
After photographing of image, there will be upward swing of the mirror in the arrow direction and the focal plane shutter will open in which case there will be projecting and capturing of image on the image sensor. After this, the shutter will close, the mirror returns to its 450 angle, the diaphragm will reopen and the internal drive mechanism will re-tension the shutter for the subsequent exposure.
Why are digital SLR cameras preferred by professional photographers
These cameras are highly preferred by the professional still photographers because they have the feature of allowing for an accurate framing preview that is very close to the exposure moment. They are also preferred because they allow the photographer to select the most ideal from various lenses that are interchangeable.
Most digital SLR cameras also have a function that makes it possible to have an accurate depth of field preview. Most professionals also prefer these cameras because they work very well with the large sensors.
These cameras have sensors that are very close in size to the formats of traditional films that most current professional photographers used in their early days of photography. The large sensors have the advantage that they allow depths of field and formats of angle of picture to film that are similar and secondly, they have high ratio of signal to noise.
