Why Is Banos A Popular Tourist Destination?

There are plenty of things to see and do in Banos and the growing popularity of this

tourist destination found in Ecuador is mainly based on the flock of people that visit for various reasons. If you want to travel to an exotic destination where you can find many interesting and various tourist hot spots, then Banos, Ecuador should be on your list. Here are just a few of the activities you can engage in while in Banos.

The most important religious attraction in Banos is the Church of the Virgin of the Holy Water. Many pilgrims come to this amazing basilica as it is believed that the Virgin can make miracles happen when people come to pray. The patron of the church is extremely loved in Banos and a festival is held yearly in October that is dedicated to the Virgin. Another important celebration in Banos is held in December to celebrate the anniversary of this town marked with street dancing and music.

The areas around Banos are very beautiful and it is worth exploring them by bike. There are many other sports that attract people here such as horseback riding and bungee jumping. Yet, bike rides are the most popular and you can take the well known route to Puyo only 60 kilometers away to descend from the high jungle into the rain forest. The scenery is truly amazing with rock tunnels and waterfalls to make your trip worthwhile.

Shopping is another great activity you will need to try while in Banos. With many markets and stores it is impossible not to find something to your liking. Silver jewelry, handcrafted objects, or traditional items will not disappoint you as the locals invest a lot of hard work and talent into these objects. For an authentic experience is try Melcocha, the sugar cane taffy they make here, and that means they make it right on the spot. You will find that food is cheap here and you will be pleased to spend so little cash on organic and fresh products.

The town is situated next to a volcano called Tungurahua which is still active. Many like to climb the volcano and explore its beauty. As the volcano is active the people in Banos make periodic drills.

Thermal baths are something you should not miss while in Banos. There are many mineral springs in the area and you can go spa hopping if you want to enjoy them all. There is no better way to end a day then relaxing your muscles after a day of biking. Some of these spas also have gyms and saunas so you can enjoy a well rounded spa experience.

Banos is an interesting and generous tourist destination. Its beautiful scenery, incredible spas, and the opportunity to work out your muscles on a bike ride are just a few of its strong points.
