Why Is The Tobacco Industry So Untouchable

When a product that is sold to the public is found to be unsafe for human use or consumption

, the FDA is there to put a stop to it's being sold and used by the public. This is done to protect people from being harmed by using a product, whatever it might be. It could be a new drug that does not get approval because it has so many side effects. However, that is really laughable these days because most new drugs have so many side effects that it is hard to tell if you are being cured of one thing or killed by twenty others. Products that prove to be undeniably deadly are removed from the market and people sue the drug companies that make them.

If this is the way it is and is supposed to be, then why is it that tobacco cigarettes are still legal? It is common knowledge that the tobacco industry is huge, but it is very doubtful that the entire country would go broke if it ceased to be produced. Like any other farmer, tobacco growers could grow something else that would be more beneficial to the public. It is really simple though if you stop and think about it, it's the money.

It has to be the money that is behind tobacco cigarettes being allowed to remain legal. Why else would a product be allowed to remain on the market to be sold in huge numbers to the public when it has been proven without any doubt at all that it kills people? It can kill people because it damages almost every organ in the body. Tobacco is loaded with carcinogenic chemicals that cause cancer and it is hard to find an exact answer as to why these chemicals are added to tobacco in the first place. Why are the tobacco companies at the very least not made to clean up their product and remove the additives that are so deadly? Any other product would be scrutinized to death until it was either made safe to use or it would be banned.

It is so difficult to understand that if the FDA itself and so many other health organizations want people to stop smoking so bad, why are they not finding a way to outlaw growing tobacco the way they have marijuana? Do they really want people to stop smoking? It is like telling a child to not eat candy, yet still allowing candy to be put on their plates.

Of course, there have been some restrictions placed on tobacco smoking so that people that smoke can not do it just anywhere and it is illegal to sell cigarettes to minors, but that is regulating the smoker. The smoker has to pay outrageous taxes on the cigarettes they purchase, but where are the restrictions that should be placed on the tobacco companies themselves? Why is it that the tobacco industry alone are able to get away with marketing such a deadly product that is addictive and deadly? There is something very wrong with this picture and someone needs to finally get to the bottom of it and hold the tobacco industry accountable.
