Why Is There A Powerplate Backlash?

In recent years, Powerplate has been at the forefront of modern vibration training technology

. The Powerplate is based on an intensively vibrating platform which moves or vibrates up to 50 times per minute, causing the muscles in your body to contract and relax very quickly literally hundreds of times a minute.

Powerplate uses celebrity endorsements to sell their machines, along with some aggressive marketing techniques. This has meant that Powerplate has dominated the vibration training market for years. But all that has now changed.

Recently, some scientists expressed their concern over their work being cited as evidence for supporting Powerplates technology. Although no scientist actively endorses Powerplate, Powerplate cite many studies on their site as evidence to support the benefits of vibration training.

Their concern is that the vibration intensity levels on the Powerplate machines are far too powerful and can actually cause brain damage, blurred vision, lower back pain, cartilage damage and loss of hearing.

Because of this, some scientists have asked Powerplate to withdraw their studies from their site, stating that:

I think they are cavalier in dismissing the dangers of chronic exposure, he said. Im a scientist. I worry that people are going to use this device based on a misrepresentation of science. (Professor Rubin, State University, New York)

This statement came from Professor Rubin who mentioned that his research only supports vibration training at much gentler speeds than the Powerplate machines. His main concern is that the Powerplate vibrations are far too strong and can damage rather than heal the body.

However, its important to present a balanced view against this backlash to vibration training. Vibration training done at the right intensity is actively proven and beneficial for the body because of the healing effect it has within the body.

There are countless anecdotes throughout history where even the Ancient Greeks used vibration training to help patients heal injured limbs using primitive forms of mechanical vibration. Because vibration training improves blood circulation and increases flexibility as well as bone density, it makes it the perfect exercise for even elderly patients.

There are many reputable manufacturerss who make vibration machines other than Powerplate, and so should not be a deterrent from vibration training per se. To find out more, simply see the details in the resource box below.
