Why Mizuno F-60 Fairway Wood Is Great?

Mizuno's forgings have always been considered the very best mass produced forged clubs in the world. Only hand forged clubs form the likes of Honma, and other Japanese Sword Makers have been known to match them in feel. Their fairway metals, and drivers have faces that have gone through similar processes. This gives them unbeatable feel at impact. Why?

The Mizuno F-60 fairway woods produce an effortlessly powerful ball flight, attainable through the combination of an ultra-lightweight titanium crown and stainless steel body. Previously difficult to bond, the titanium crown is affixed to the high-tech precision stainless steel face and body through a patented new brazing process. The brazing process which uses a 3rd material to bond the two metals allows weight to be positioned very low in the clubhead.

The technology replaces Mizuno's previous graphite crown / steel body combination which required a heavier bonding material. Mizuno engineers found that by using this lightweight titanium crown, which is only 3% of the total weight of the club head, they could strategically reposition the COG to enable players to launch the ball with greater ease and increased control. In addition, the Mizuno F-60 fairway woods feature Mizuno's CORTECH face design, which utilizes three multi-thickness areas to ensure uniform face deflection and a thin responsive face to generate high initial ball velocity for increased distance and consistency.

What with rescue clubs and hybrids being so popular right now, fairway woods have taken a bit of a back seat when it comes to great designing over the last couple of years. So Mizuno have really stepped up their game with the Mizuno F-60 fairway wood for 2008. Where in the past carbon crowns have been the favoured way of freeing up useless weight to relocate, Mizuno reckon their new Mizuno F60 titanium crown is the bees knees! It only weighs 3% of the entire golf club head weight which means more weight can be put to better use making the club more stable on off centre hits.

This is by far one of the best feeling fairway woods out there. It is also one of Mizuno's longest ever. Once again, however, as with the irons, you buy a Mizuno Club for "feel" first and foremost. They just have it for some reason. It's nice to see that their woods have started to come on line w/the feel that their irons are so well known for. It's almost mind blowing in the sense that 6 or 7 year ago I wouldn't give you a hill of beans for a Mizuno Driver, much less a Fairway Metal. Finally, the last two generations of their drivers have begun to catch on;and now after all this time, the same can be said for their Fairway Metals.

If you're a fan of traditionally shaped fairway woods you'll really enjoy these as their wide subtly curved pear shaped golf club heads are perfect for drilling shots off the deck. Tell you, the Mizuno F-60 fairway wood heads are also nicely shaped to match both Mizuno's new drivers and sound more pleasing than previous models due to the stainless steel and titanium materials used. Just to top off the whole design Mizuno techies have also worked hard to create a sole which is hittable from any type of lie and reduces turfdrag so maximum power is transferred to the ball everytime.

Overall, I'd have to say that Mizuno has really hit a lot of important hot buttons with this one. It is a very goodclub that feels great, gets respectable distance, and is about as workable as a fairway metal gets. But if you've ever really read Hogan seriously, the shot he talks about at length is his 4 wood from the fairway bunker.
