Why Rehab Isnt Enough When Tackling Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a widespread problem globally

. And it seems the only real options for tackling the problem is for a person to go to jail, enter rehab, or go cold turkey. And there are, of course, the medical detox programs, including Ibogaine treatment. But the problem with all of those, or more specifically, the marketing campaigns that promote those programs is that theyre touted as a one-time solution to achieve sobriety. And that is not the case.

Healing drug addiction is more than just getting sober and remaining sober. It isnt some pinnacle or high point reached after 30 days in a sober-recovery rehabilitation clinic. You dont go in; get clean, and suddenly your problems are over. And its important to recognize this before you begin treatment so you know what to expect.

Drug addiction is a medical condition. Its an ongoing condition thats managed on a day-to-day basis. Cravings may disappear, thanks to detox drugs like Ibogaine. But they may resurface after those initial six months following treatment, so its important that the psychological and behavioral aspects of drug abuse are addressed.

Actually, its important that those issues continue to be addressed. Throughout recovery, its important to understand the underlying root of the addiction. Perhaps there was childhood trauma that led a person to seek drugs and alcohol for comfort. Or maybe it is a persons inability to develop proper coping mechanisms during the transition into adulthood. Or if a person is addicted to painkillers, it may be that he or she had a medical condition that afforded them a prescription and soon they were hooked.

Whatever the cause may be, its important that the person addresses it through the assistance of a licensed psychologist, psychotherapist, life coach, pastor, behavioral therapist, or a combination of all. You should have an entire team supporting you in your efforts to achieve and REMAIN sober.

Psychological counseling should continue and be ongoing. Whether you elect to attend a support group or one-on-one therapy sessions, or both, you should have a place you can go to address the issues you face on a day-to-day basis. You should have a person or a group of people who will hold you accountable and help guide you along your chosen path. And if you feel that you are veering off track or may have a relapse, you can contact your person or any person in your group.

The key is understanding that this process doesnt end. Its never-ending. But by understanding rehab and detox is only one step of the process can give a person a much greater prognosis for success.
