Why Russian Women Seek Western Husbands

The kind of Russian women who look for husbands abroad these days are intelligent

, well-educated and sophisticated. They want to marry Western men because they feel that such men are often more suitable for them.

From the perspective of a Russian woman, a Western husband would treat her like the equal she is. He would respect her opinion, share responsibility for child rearing, and do his part of the domestic chores. He would drink in moderation, avoid chasing other women, and be responsible about financial matters.

There are, of course, women in Russia who want to be homemakers, and in Western nations they are at least offered that choice. The average Russian doctor's salary of one hundred dollars per month is also the cost of a DSL line in St. Petersburg. A Russian woman could work as a doctor if she wanted to, but even if married she would be forced to work at some kind of job while pregnant or raising children. If she has a Western husband and therefore lives in the West, his income is enough that she can choose whether to work or stay home.

Russian women may believe that Western men are all urbane and sophisticated professionals. Few women in Russia can afford to travel to the West, so the only Western men they meet are those who travel to Russia. Such men tend to have decent amounts of money or good incomes, and to be well-versed in proper behaviour. In Russia, a woman can register in person at a dating service that has an online presence in the West and can help her meet the Western man of her dreams.

A Russian woman, like most other people, wants a loving relationship in which she is comfortable with her mate and both emotionally and financially secure. If she stayed unmarried long enough to get her post-secondary degree, she many no longer be of marriage age in Russian culture, but be of common marriage age in the West.

Trying to emigrate to the west can mean spending years in a queue, and the simplest way to shrink that waiting period is to marry someone who already has status in the West, but this doesn't mean that Russian women are just after the papers. These days they want stable, enduring marriages that enable them to have families.

In the end, however, Russian women have their own personal preferences too, and some of them just may prefer Western men.
