You can learn to speak French very effectively without relying on boring, rote exercises. Given that French has a reputation for being a language of passionate emotion and vivid descriptive capabilities, it's sometimes best to learn it in the context of a story. This opens up the emotional content of the language, as well as the practical aspects, such as what expressions are commonly-used and how to use inflection to communicate meaning beyond words, a very important skill in any language.
