Why Should You Move To Richmond?
As you might know by now, I love to rent in Putney
. I love the atmosphere here, the shops, the restaurants, the character of the place, but recently I've been thinking of moving again. This time I'm thinking moving back to find something to rent in Richmond. I used to rent a flat in Richmond, and I'm finding I miss it a lot.
And also I think because two friends of ours, who live quite close to us at the moment, started looking at apartments in Richmond at the end of last year. They have a young family, two children under five and a dog and they've decided that they want somewhere with more outdoor spaces for the children to play in as they grow. Okay, now Putney does have a lot of parks but they want more.
Specifically, they want spaces they could get to without having to take the car, tube or bus. And that's one thing that Richmond has lots of; in fact Richmond has more green spaces than any other borough of London. Just take a look at in on a map - it's nearly all green! Richmond Park alone is over 2500 acres in size. In fact, the number of parks in Richmond has meant that it has always been a popular choice for families and people with pets.
And of course in Richmond you have 16 miles of the River Thames. Richmond really does make the most of its waterfront and people who work in or near Westminster can even get to and from their offices or places of business by ferry boat. Otherwise there are 8 trains an hour to and from Waterloo station; the journey time is 20 minutes. Or you can take the tube on the District Line, which takes 30 minutes or travel by bus to and from the city. This makes Richmond a relaxing haven for many career people. It is close enough to London but also a completely different environment.
Plus with its gorgeous Richmond Green, the largest outdoor town centre space in London, you can really believe you are living in a village. There are tiny cobbled lanes surrounding the green which are full of thriving, independent businesses, shops, restaurants and pubs. Speaking of which, you will find many Michelin starred restaurants in Richmond as well as others that have been listed in national guides.
If you prefer to cook for yourself, you can buy organic or locally sourced food and drink from the weekly farmers' markets held every Saturday in Twickenham, Richmond and Barnes. What could be better than to visit the market, buy some food, then hire a boat and go for a cruise down the Thames to find a shady riverside spot for a fantastic picnic lunch!
Plus there are all the normal recreation and leisure facilities you would expect from a London borough with the added benefit of cycle hire available in most Richmond parks. Richmond has a great theatre on the green which shows West End shows and a variety of art galleries, theatres and museums. Add to that Kew Gardens and the London Wetland Centre and you can see why when it comes to finding a perfect family home to rent Richmond is a top choice.
This means that there is often a lot of competition for properties there. This is one reason why, if you want to find property to rent in Richmond, you need to use a letting agency.
My friends have registered with one and hope to rent in Richmond soon. I'm seriously thinking of joining them.
