. With the boom of the social networking craze, there are many teens creating a profile for themselves and exchanging information with other friends on the social networking sites in particular. If you do let your child create one of these profiles there needs to be a huge emphasis on safety; one suggestion is to never give out their real names, address, phone numbers, the school they go to or any other personal information.

There are many risks presented to teens when using the Internet, and if you read the papers there are many tragedies of children lured into befriending someone that has every intention of harm. Unfortunately, there many kinds of people like this on the Internet every day and attacks made towards children happen every few minutes. Now, you as a parent need to have a detailed talk with your teen on such dangers as these. One way to start is to find out what they like and dislike about the Internet. Then maybe go into putting some rules aside for some of the concerns that you might have about the conversation on Internet safety for teens. No matter what way this gets done just make sure as parents that you do, and maybe in the process get to know your child a little better.

There are many different settings that have been put in place in the operating system in general to help combat some of the threats. Internet safety zones can be adjusted to only display certain content and can be locked from editing by an administrator password. When it is used properly, the Internet is an excellent tool in educating teenagers and children on the real risks that come along with it and ways to be safe in the process, and those parents that do not warn their children on what is out there run the risk of the children stumbling upon those predators themselves and unintentionally diving right into dangerous issue. Internet safety for teens is something that everyone needs to play an active role in.
